We saw this blue heron on our walk today. He ignored the dog, who was more interested in wading through the pond than in chasing birds.
Right before that, a muntjac deer crossed our path, but I didn't have time to pull out my camera. Here's a website with a photo, and here's a video if you want to see what one looks like. They're slightly smaller than my dog, and walk hunched over, like they have bad posture. They probably eat the brambles (blackberries) that ripen this time of year. So does my dog—we stop and graze whenever we see a good patch.
Muntjacs bark, and sometimes scream. They live in the pasture behind our house, and sometimes we hear an unfortunate scream.
