Well, this was weird. While Barack Obama is tearing around the U.S., stopping in places like Boise, Idaho and Wilmington Delaware to give speeches to overflow crowds (15,000 thousand in Boise. And thousands turned away.) the UK is apparently feeling left out.
I just walked into the kitchen and heard the end of a piece on Radio 4 about "Following the Barack Obama trail". Turns out he was in Berkshire for a half-sister's wedding, several years ago. Seems he went into a pub called The Rose, now known as The New Rose.
This pub was famous for the poems written about a former pub owner's daughter, so they read a poem Obama had written. About his grandfather. Not bad, but nothing at all to do with the pub.
No one could quite remember him being there, either, though his sister's mother still lives nearby.
You could almost hear a great stretching sound coming over the radio.
