Cutty Sark: R.I.P.
One of Britain's best preserved, and best loved, maritime treasures is ablaze. I just heard the news: Cutty Sark is on fire.
When I went to Greenwich a couple of years ago, we arrived back at Cutty Sark just as it was closing. Another time, I figured. She didn't look like she was going anywhere.
But now it's "100% on fire." From the looks of the images on TV, it doesn't look like there'll be much left.
The only tea clipper still around, the Cutty Sark was undergoing restoration. She was part of the Greenwich skyline, a landmark that contributed to Greenwich's status as a World Heritage Site. You can read more about her history here.
I did take photos while I was in Greenwich. Unless the firefighters are performing a miracle right now, these will be the last photos I'll get of Cutty Sark.
What a shame.
