Alan Cowell in the New York Times writes:
For 40 years, Britain has nurtured a policy of multiculturalism celebrating ethnic diversity and its emblems.
I think maybe Alan went to London, saw lots of ethnic restaurants, and figured the Brits have embraced multiculturalism. Sure, they've embraced curry, but when it comes to the problems of modern society, somehow it's the "foreigners" who are to blame.
At least that's what I've been told, more than once, by my white British neighbors who would be shocked if I told them I haven't heard such racist language since I was growing up in the Deep South.
I would like to invite Alan Cowell to go beyond London next time he visits the U.K. He might be surprised by how few "ethnic emblems" he finds a mere 30 miles from the West End.
The rest of the article wasn't that bad.
