This morning the dog didn't wake me up at 5:30 as usual. She wouldn't eat or drink, nor would she get out from under the desk where she usually sleeps, until it was time to take my daughter to the bus. Then she balked at jumping in the car, and I knew something was wrong when she just lay down in the back seat instead of keeping a lookout for all the exciting things we usually see on the way to the bus stop.
At home she refused to get out of the car, so I left her there while I waited for the vet to open. Of course as soon as we got there she hopped out of the car and did her best to prove me a liar. They did an invasive procedure she doesn't want me to talk about, but we're still not sure that was the problem. Anyway, she's groggy from painkillers and I'm hoping by tomorrow she will be her perky self and she will not have developed a dependence on doggy Oxycontin.
I did find out there's no need for heartworm meds here. No fleas, no rabies, and no heartworms. And no leads either in many places. This is truly a dog's paradise.
P.S. On re-reading...y'all know I didn't leave her in the car by herself? I stayed with her mostly, reading a book and making necessary phone calls till after nine when the vet could take us.
