While in London today I saw a film at the Prince Charles Cinema, an artsy venue near Leicester Square that shows cheap (£3-4) films. (That's cheap for London; most are over £9 these days.) C.R.A.Z.Y. is sort of like a French prequel to Brokeback Mountain.
Pretty good film, but I couldn't figure out why it seemed they were living in America yet the film was in French (with subtitles). They drove American cars, listened to American music, and wore American clothes with that unique '80s American tastelessness. (Mullet alert!)
But now I'm pretty sure the film was set in Quebec. Have my Canadian readers (well, reader) seen this and do they (he) wish to weigh in? Are Quebecians really that much less exotic than their French cousins?
