The same day I'm emailed this Molly Ivins' column where she claims she won't be supporting Hillary Clinton for president, I read this in the NY times, quoting Democratic operative Chris Lehane:
"There is a basic principle in politics that you ignore anyone who is criticizing you unless they are actually a threat and scoring points against you," Mr. Lehane continued. "Republicans are making the very safe assumption that she will be the Democratic nominee in 2008 and it scares them. So they are beginning to engage her."
Which probably explains why they ignored Al Gore after his blistering attack on George Bush. But that's not my point: I think Chris Lehane needs to put his ear to the ground. Get out of the Beltway once in a while. Know what I mean? Or else I'd like to meet him in Ladbrokes, where I'd bet against his horse...
And another thing: I watched Meet the Press with James Carville and Paul Begala pushing their new book, "What Democrats Need to Do to Stop Getting Their Asses Kicked" or something like that. When Russert played a snide crack someone made about Howard Dean, neither bothered to refute the attack on the chairman of the Democratic Party, despite having just mouthed something about Democrats needing to fight back and finally stand up for what they believe in.
Fuckers.
