Thom Yorke* was just on the radio, talking about the overnight demonstration held in London as part of the Trade Justice Union's Wake Up to Trade Justice event. He said they had a much larger turnout than expected, and he was pretty busy getting tea for everyone. (Not very Creep-like of him.)
Wish I'd known. Tea served by a band member from Radiohead, the quintessential English band that's not Oasis.
Anyway, I'm glad they're protesting, as it might remind people here that Great Britain will head the G8 next year, and the Prime Minister will have a big say in setting the agenda. Tony Blair and his new best friend Gordon Brown have promised to focus on poverty in Africa, though with Rover closing they may have to look at poverty in their own country. LibDem leader Charles Kennedy is equally committed to ending poverty, wherever it may creep.
I just can't see Tory leader Michael Howard getting worked up over poverty anywhere, frankly.
So while I'm in London today, if I see a protest I might just join in. And if I see Thom Yorke I'll ask for tea with Pablo Honey. (Sorry.)
