Tired of the lockstep agreement in the left-wing blogosphere? So am I. That's why I was glad to see my homeys have grown disagreeable. Amanda at Pandagon weighs in against the ban on smoking proposed in Austin, as does Norbizness. Lindsay is in favor, she thinks, and Rox shoots and ducks.
I'm in favor of smoking bans, though it's been so long since I've been to a smoky bar I forget why I'd ever want to go. I wear contacts, and smoke-filled rooms equal torture. No, I don't use that word lightly. It's agony to be around smoke, so if I don't have my coke-bottle glasses with me, I head for the exit when people light up.
Not being able to participate in something my peers can is discrimination, I submit. Who knows how many jobs I've lost out on because I couldn't join my colleagues in their smoky inebriation? How many jaw sessions I could only hear about the next day, after my turn to weigh in had done gone. Heck, I'd probably have a much better grasp of the current slang, and not use words like "homeys" to describe my peers if only I could get out more.
I'm glad, though, there are people who disagree with me, right here in my own blogosphere! We need more of this disagreement. We were starting to sound like, well, right-wing parrots.
