My friend and early supporter, Stacia Deutsch, will be on C-SPAN's Book TV program Monday, 3:30 p.m. ET and again Tuesday, 3:30 a.m. ET. She co-wrote a children's book, "Blast to the Past: Lincoln's Legacy", the first in a series of time travel books about third graders who go back in time to offer encouragement to various historical figures, who, like all of us, suffer from wee bouts of despair. I read an early draft of this book; I would have gobbled it up when I was in second grade. (Instead, I glommed on those Bobbsey Twins brats.)
Stacia was taped speaking to schoolchildren at Politics and Prose, a Washington D.C. bookstore. Check out the Blast to the Past website, and if you know a beginning reader, introduce them to Lincoln's Legacy.
And leave the Bobbsey Twins on the shelf. Your second-grader will thank you.
