Sunday Walk in the Mall

Westfieldmall

Westfield Mall in London

Yesterday we ignored the nice weather and took our Sunday walk in the new mall in west London. It's in White City, near the BBC studios, with easy access by tube or by road.

There weren't too many people there, but on a mild January Sunday afternoon, I wouldn't expect that. While there's no shortage of shopping in London, until now there were no big American-style malls this close in. They picked a terrible year to open, though. Some of the shops in the new mall are already in receivership.

I didn't see many people carrying shopping bags, either. Most people seemed curious, like us. It does seem like a comfortable place to sit and read, which is what my husband did while I shopped for boots with Daughter Number Two.

I did buy a pair of weight-lifting gloves. DNT says I'll look bad ass when I walk into the gym. Until they see how I struggle to lift the weight machine even with the pin out.

I did not say that...

yep, it looks like a mall. i just can't stand going to them much, any more. daughter and i had a shopping excursion a couple weeks ago, which was tolerable because we got to hang out, have lunch, use her gift card to buy some things she LOVED, and laugh at the ugliest shoes. but the Big City mall had absolutely noplace to sit, except monsterously overcrowded food courts.

the Local Mall has gone all seedy. the last time i went, some junior thugs tried to jump my son *inside* the mall. i stuck out my hand to signal STOP and yelled, "gentlemen, BACK OFF!" this kid barged right into my hand -- i don't think he even saw me until then -- and he was so startled that he yelled about me "touching" him! the commotion attracted mall security, which escorted the irate critters to the exit. my son was mortified, but score one for the mama bears.... anyway, that place lost my business.

plus, i've gotten so spoiled by the internets.

I'm really not a mall person, either. I much prefer walking in the outdoors! But it was fun to see the new building. England's malls pale in comparison to those in the US, but lately they've been catching up.

I can't believe your son was accosted! Well done you, for stopping them in their tracks!

Sehr gute Seite. Ich habe es zu den Favoriten.
