In my first class today on the Reign of Henry VIII, I had a crazy thought: What if George Bush is really the reincarnation of Henry VIII?
It would explain the royal proclamation—err, signing statements. The public adoration, which later in his reign turned to public disgust. The tendency to take the advice of the last adviser who talked to him. The piousness. The erratic behaviour. (Oh wait, that's John McCain.) The increased use of the charge of treason. The enhanced power of the crown—err, executive branch.
Although—somewhere along the way he lost the ability to speak Latin. Or English, for that matter.
