Wow, was that me last week, complaining about the heat? It's back in the 60s today, with a constant drizzle beating at the ground.
I remember my first summer here, when temperatures dipped into the fifties. I was pretty sure something was wrong—maybe the Gulf Stream had shifted, like Al Gore warns will happen if the ice caps melt. But none of the locals took my concerns the least bit seriously. It was a perfectly normal summer, possibly even a bit warmer than usual. The next summer we had unprecedented heat, which had people rushing to buy fans and air conditioners. Seemed normal to me, though, although the idea of 90-degree weather with no air conditioning is disconcerting for a girl from the South.
Now we've had a couple more normal summers, with this one being the most normal of all—rain, but not too much; a whole week of warm weather, but not too warm.
If Goldilocks is still in the market for a just-right climate, I think I've found it—for today at least. But check back in a day or two; I'm sure the balance will have tipped toward too rainy/hot/cold again.
